Dr. Rodney B. Freeman is a York County native who grew up in McConnells, South Carolina during the years of his youth. Upon graduating from York Comprehensive High School in 1983, he went to work in the commercial printing and finishing industry for 17 years.
In 1997, Dr. Freeman preached his initial sermon at Nazareth Baptist Church in Rock Hill, South Carolina under the leadership of Dr. John T. McCoy. Prior to uniting and preaching his initial sermon with the Nazareth Baptist Church, he was a member of the Mount Dowell Baptist Church in McConnells, South Carolina, where he served in various ministries. While attending Nazareth Baptist Church, Dr. Freeman served as an Associate Minister for one year before accepting the Pastoral position as Senior Pastor of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Gastonia, North Carolina, now Mt. Zion Restoration Church, in the year of 2000. Dr. Freeman immediately began to execute the vision that God had entrusted to his care. The church went from being program driven to "purpose driven" and transitioned from being inward focused to outward focused.
Dr. Freeman founded Save Our Children Youth Academy, Inc. (SOCYA) in order to provide quality and affordable childcare for single mothers. Save Our Children Youth Academy is a fully accredited and licensed nursery, after-school and summer enrichment program servicing children six weeks to 12 years of age. Dr. Freeman also founded the Bountiful Blessings Food Pantry. Bountiful Blessings was established to alleviate hunger among the elderly and children in Gaston County. Dr. Freeman is also the Founder, President and Dean of MZR Bible College, which was founded in 2016, in Gastonia, North Carolina. One of his goals throughout his ministry is to give back to the community, and he has a desire to empower both men and women through biblical education. Dr. Freeman believes that
biblical education is a must for the 21st Century church. The school's goal is to produce scholars, leaders and advocates for Biblical truth, who will prayerfully, one day, give back to their own community and church.
Dr. Freeman holds four theological degrees – Associate of Religious Arts in Biblical Studies from Jacksonville Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Florida; Bachelor of Pastoral Studies from Queen City Bible College, Charlotte, North Carolina; Master of Divinity in Pastoral Studies, School of Divinity at Gardner Webb University, Boiling Springs, North Carolina; and Doctor of Ministry from Ashland Theological Seminary, Ashland, Ohio.
Dr. Freeman is the son of Ira Lee Freeman and Johnnie Mae Jackson. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Jeanine Murray Freeman. They are the parents of Mrs. Tierra Carter and Justin Freeman, and grandparents of Chase Carter. Dr. Freeman has one sibling, Scott.
